Fast Fashion - La Di Da Magazine Spring 2017

Life is at a faster pace than ever and with thanks to the social media revolution we are the 'see it now, buy it now' generation as strong visuals from Instagram continue to dominate.  Until now trends have always filtered through from catwalk designers to high street shops, but Spring Summer 2017 started like no other with huge fashion houses such as Burberry and Tom Ford offering instant 'buy now' exclusives on their Instagram as their shows were viewed for the very first time.

Instagram inspired prints were seen at Chanel and intricate computer wires were weaved together to form the trademark Chanel tweed jacket.  It appears now that fast fashion is not only offered on the high street but designers have stepped up their game, resulting in our everyday lives and social media habits changing the behaviour of how we shop.

Welcome to the digital age of fashion…New season accessories reflect this also, as the new ‘it bag’ has downsized to the mini bag - and is designed to match our fast paced digital lifestyle.  A lippy and mobile phone is all you need.  Not sure if I can do without my bottomless Mary Poppins bag...

Colour Pop Pink to make the boys wink...From marshmallow hues to bubble gum pop, all shades of pink dominated Paris Fashion Week.  From sugar coated oversized bow dresses at Chloe to fuchsia draped dresses at Balenciaga worn over lilac tights and mismatch boots.  Chanel couture saw baby pink prom style dresses, so whatever shade of blush you choose this season it’s the must-have colour to be seen in.

Style tip: Don't be afraid to colour block your shades of pink and sugar coat your wardrobe!

Ruffle Mania ...The uncertainty of Brexit is reflected on the catwalks of Spring/Summer 2017 with unstructured shirts to uneven hemlines and bold ruffles taking centre stage.  From romantic frills with embroidered flowers at Alexander McQueen to ruffled power shoulders, uneven hemmed skirts and shirts at Mulberry. The new boho saw Erdem create pretty floral dresses with fluted sheer sleeves and skirts whilst Coach saw ruffled sheer dresses under punked up leather biker jackets.  Be sure to punk up your floaty dresses to be on trend this season!

Tip:  Get shirty!  Silhouette of the season… Invest in a deconstructed shirt ….

Power Trip...The eighties are here to stay and Balenciaga took the power shoulder to the extreme with accentuated box jackets, and with Teresa May as Prime Minister the power suit is here to stay! Chanel mixed shoulder pads with side caps (a trend I will not be trying).  Saint Laurent saw Dynasty inspired metallic draped dresses with shoulder pads. Style your shoulder pads with romantic ruffles as seen at Jacquemus Paris Fashion Week to soften the look.

Return of the Mac...Invest in a trench this season, it has been updated and is oversized and longer than before.  Modelling great Lauren Hutton wore a Bottega Veneta oversized trench whilst Burberry, Hermes and Prada all featured trenches in their show, whether they were oversized, had accentuated shoulders or large belts - a beige trench is a must in your wardrobe this season.

Athleisure...and Milan made the message clear, if its sporty its in... Moving on from sports luxe to Athleisure, sportswear was particularly prominent at Milan Fashion Week. Versace teamed Jane Fonda like one suits with matching anoraks, Gucci teamed retro running leggings underneath tulle and floaty dresses.  Street style saw fashionistas teaming hoodies with brocade suits.

The SS17 Accessory-

The side cap seen at Chanel complimented almost every outfit, whether it was a tulle over a lace slip of a classic Chanel tweed suit.  I wont be trying this trend, too much Timmy Mallet for me.

The waist belt- worn to accentuate the waist over floaty feminine dresses as seen on Balenciaga to Alberta Ferretti.

Trends not to try...

One earring...unless you want to look lop sided or be told you've lost an earring on your night out!

Kitten heels... Unless you've got super toned legs the kitten heel is unflattering to say the least. Trainers or heels, there is no innetween!

Pyjama party... Last season it was about the slip, this season it's all about satin pjs and heels. Unless you are a Kardashian I'm not sure you could pull this look off!
