Tis the season to sparkle...sequins and metallic dazzled on every catwalk at fashion week. Sequins are not just for partying, walk like a disco ball anytime of the day or night! A sequin jacket, a tee or a pair of metallic party flats, are an updated way to sparkle and stand out from the crowd. The bigger the sequins the better! As dressing down is the new dressing up what better way to do this than to wear a metallic top off your shoulder. Proenza Schouler dressed down metallic knitwear with black midi skirts and Phelan clashed metallic knit sweaters and knitted skirts. Isabel Marant and Balmain styled metallic skinny pants with ruffle knitwear.
Lust over rust...If you want to veer away from black this season, I would recommend you amp it up a notch with burgundy velvet, as seen on Lanvin and Etro’s fall catwalks, this mix of texture and richness of colour gives an instantly luxurious look. My favourite velvet look of all this season has to be inspired by the Dries Van Noten catwalk show, where dresses where enhanced with rich coloured furs simply strewn over the shoulder or draped across the arm. For inspiration try our on trend velvet burgundy dress.
Prowling on the catwalks of AW16 is everything from leopard print to feathers to fur. We all have a little bit of animal print in our wardrobes, if you haven't get some! I have a vintage leopard cape, a shirt, shoes and a bag that I can bring out nearly every season. A homage to Saint Laurent and Dolce & Gabbana, leopard was seen on almost every catwalk. Prada had leopard print coats with fur sleeves, Acne used yellow hues of leopard print on their oversized coats. Leopard print is not as fierce when it comes to accessories and you can't go wrong with a leopard print tailored coat over a party dress as seen on Givenchy this season. Shop our fabulous fur gilets here at Havetolove, the ideal Christmas gift this season.
Party like its 1999 with the bomber...Choose a metallic or embellished style and drape it over your shoulders like Olivia Palermo and wear with a bodysuit and a pair of ripped skinny jeans. Take inspo from Chloe and finish a feminine outfit with chunky biker boots or Isabel Marant style studded boots. Fashion just got functional and you Northern gals will be grateful of this trend...add a fur hood to your bomber jacket for an updated look? Dress down your slinky party dress with an oversized bomber, puffa or fur coat seen on almost every catwalk from Acne to Stella McCartney.
Glam rocked....Moschino and House of Holland updated rara skirts , tees and zipped leathers with a punk feel. Saint Laurent and Lanvin brought back power dressing with Dynasty inspired metallic fabrics and big shoulders whilst Isabel Marant was more Debbie Harry, original Rock Chick, with metallic pants, tees and chokers. Wear a statement jacket, over a cropped top with latex style punk trousers and studded stilettos.
Big up your smalls...Underwear is outerwear, Madonna's white bride outfit worn at the 1984 MTV music video awards is inspo for this look. Versus by Verscace, Preen and Alexander McQueen vamped it up with a nude bustier worn over a nude ruffle dress. Too provocative for you, then wear peek a boo lace bras or lace Camis under knitwear and dresses. If wearing a bustier is too much over your party dress then lace it up with lingerie worn as outerwear, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen ruffled feathers with lace bras as part of her boho floaty dresses.
